The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) makes the digital product passport (DPP) a prerequisite for market access in the EU. It demands verifiable identity, machine-readable data, and ongoing lifecycle transparency for every regulated product category. ESPR requires an on-product data carrier that resolves to a unique product identifier. TraceID gives a serialised item or a batch a unique 16-character trace ID, carried as a QR code today and NFC-ready. Standards-first data modelling
The DPP must be machine-readable, searchable, and built on interoperable standards. TraceID stores each passport as the JSON you supply, with a SHA-256 checksum, and keeps every earlier version. The same scan URL returns that JSON to scripts and tools, so supply chain partners or authorities can read it without custom middleware.
Compliance evidence on-demand
The regulation expects the passport to include declarations of conformity, notified-body credentials, and supporting technical documentation. TraceID holds those documents as attachments on the product record, versions every passport upload, and lets anyone who scans view or email the documents through short-lived links.
A lifecycle view, not a static PDF
ESPR keeps the passport alive for the entire product lifecycle. We orchestrate durability, repair, upgrade, and end-of-life instructions along with recycling or take-back steps. When anything changes—such as a supplier update or a new regulation—you upload a new passport version, and TraceID keeps the earlier ones and logs the update for auditability.
