We're witnessing a fundamental shift in how products move through our world. Consumers scan QR codes on restaurant tables without thinking twice. They expect to know where their coffee was grown, how their clothes were made, and whether their electronics can be repaired. This isn't a trend - it's the new baseline of trust.
From 18 February 2027, electric vehicle, light means of transport (LMT) and industrial batteries above 2 kWh will need a battery passport. The Commission's working plan indicates product passport rules for iron and steel in 2026, aluminium, textiles and tyres in 2027, furniture in 2028 and mattresses in 2029. These years are indicative, not adopted. This isn't bureaucracy - it's the world demanding accountability. The circular economy isn't coming; it's here, and manufacturers who can't prove their product's journey will find that harder to sell.
But here's what excites us: the best manufacturers already want this transparency.

How We Do It
We refuse to let businesses choose between competing priorities.
Traditional thinking says transparency exposes you to competitors. Security means complexity. Compliance means bureaucracy. We rejected these false choices and built something different.
Transparency AND Security: Every QR code opens a public scan page that anyone can view. Signed-in staff also see the batch record behind the product, and their access is set by role. Batch records stay behind sign-in.
Compliance AND Efficiency: Traced keeps each passport as versioned JSON with a SHA-256 checksum, and keeps earlier versions. Traced does not yet check a passport's fields against the regulation, because the rules for iron, steel and aluminium are still being finalised.
Simplicity AND Sophistication: Any smartphone can scan your products, and behind that simple scan sits a unique 16-character trace ID that resolves to the product's record. We made the complex invisible, so your quality is what stands out, not the technology.
Today's Solution AND Tomorrow's Platform: We've already pivoted from NFC to QR codes when we saw what real manufacturing needed. We will adopt the iron and steel and aluminium delegated-act schemas as they are published. The first passport obligations start in 2027.
What We Do
TraceID is a product traceability and passport tool for small manufacturers. Traced is the module that holds a product's record, its batches and its digital product passport.
Each product or batch gets a 16-character trace ID, shown as a QR code. Anyone can scan it with a phone to open a public scan page, and every scan is logged.
Traced provides:
- Unique Trace IDs: Every product or batch gets a unique 16-character code that resolves to its record
- Batch Records: Each batch records its operator, start and end, a PASS or FAIL result and its QC data
- Two Views: A public scan page for anyone, and a batch block for signed-in staff, both from one code
- Digital Product Passports: Any JSON you upload as a passport, versioned, with a SHA-256 checksum and earlier versions kept
